After Danny Oertli’s wife died of a heart attack, his two children struggled to adjust to life without mom. This song of healing was written after his young daughter saw a rainbow and asked, “Did God let mommy paint the sky?”

“Brave” was inspired by Nichole Nordeman’s almost 3-year-old son, Charlie, whose birth was a beautiful disruption of Nordeman’s organized life. Ultimately, it is also a song about God: “You make me want to be brave / The way it always was / Is no longer good enough.”
