This Is Who I Am

Jody McBrayer’s first solo outing from his regular gig with Avalon is nothing short of disappointing. No doubt the strongest vocal talent among the pop foursome, McBrayer’s This Is Who I Am suffers from tired production, musical schizophrenia and go-nowhere-lyrics.

From the record’s opening Michael Jackson copy, to the Craig David rip-off, to McBrayer’s newly discovered Latin roots, McBrayer sounds like he’s working the karaoke scene rather than delivering a creative gem of his own. One amazing contradiction to the rest of the album is the remake of Cindy Morgan’s "Love Can Break Your Fall." McBrayer’s vocal is flawless. Unfortunately, the rest of Who I Am merely mimics every other pop radio act in this industry.

File under: Pop/Rock

Sounds like: Michael Bolton, Backstreet Boys
