Postcards delivers veteran artist Cindy Morgan’s most personal collection and strongest effort to date. After a five-year hiatus, Morgan returns with 11 original songs that offer honest, thought-provoking lyrics and tight musical arrangements.
Characterized by guitar and piano-based arrangements, Morgan’s previous work (which resulted in 20 No. 1 songs and six GMA Music awards) was more straight-ahead pop. Postcards heads in a different direction. Here, the dulcimer sets the tone with a folksy, roots-oriented vibe reminiscent of artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow or Kendall Payne. Morgan’s vocal range and emotive style are demonstrated more clearly than ever, especially when expressed through universal themes of reconciliation, hope and love.
Highlights include the heart-warming “Mother,” the upbeat, groove-oriented “Eternal Sunshine” and the reflective title track.
Overall, the tunes on Postcards are intimate and transparent, as Morgan shares some of her own life experiences through song.
