By the time the Farrells returned from their last overseas tour in 1988, playing 25 shows in Russia, their family was feeling the strain of satisfying the Christian music machine. Bob is honest to say, “It had taken a real toll on our family, and we had about as much of the CCM world as we could take. And by that time it had become less about evangelism and more about the industry.” The timing seemed right to lay down the Farrell & Farrell professional mantle.
But that doesn’t at all mean that Bob is kicking back. The driven songwriter is just as prolific today, if not more, writing for artists as current and diverse as Jaci Velasquez, Stacie Orrico, Eric Clapton, and Wynonna. Bob Farrell and Eddie DeGarmo were behind the writing of !Hero, a modern-day gospel rock opera, written with the MTV generation in mind, and Bob’s music plays behind many national TV ads.

Jayne places most of her focus today on caring for the couple’s four grandsons, but together they are working on new Christmas music, and hope to be touring at the end of the coming year with Clay Crosse, Tammy Trent, Michael Tait, and Michael O’Brien with Bob’s new classical oratorical work, Savior. Meanwhile, the next generation still finds much to appreciate in the Farrell & Farrell style, as the Nashville-based electronica-power-pop group People In A Box, named for one of F&F’s most popular and relevant songs and fronted by Bob’s buddy Kurt Kirton, continues to take the techno work the Farrells first started to the next level.
