21 Questions for Bianca Ryan and Natalie Grant

If you watched the reality TV show “America’s Got Talent,” you saw 12-year-old singer Bianca Ryan sweep the competition and land a CD deal with Simon Cowell’s record label. And if you’re a Christian music fan, you know one of its most-loved singers, Natalie Grant. Sit back and enjoy as Grant, the experienced songstress, interviews Bianca, the young new star, and vice versa. Let’s find out what they learn.

Natalie Grant Interviews Bianca Ryan:

1. Natalie: What was it like to be a competitor on “America’s Got Talent?”

Bianca: It wasn’t like other shows where everyone is really competitive. There were so many different talents—everything from dancing cows and a yodeler to harmonica players and people who juggled fire. I could not believe I got picked. It was definitely a miracle!

2. Natalie: What was your most memorable moment from being on the show?

Bianca: Probably winning—I didn’t even expect it! I had told my dad earlier, “God is going to give this prize to the person who needs it the most.” My family was so happy for me. They cut it out, but my family ran up on stage and gave me hugs.

3. Natalie: When did you start becoming interested in singing?

Bianca: I noticed I could hold a tune when I was about 7 or 8 years old and I would sing to the radio. After a few years—when I was 9 or 10—I took lessons for a while. That’s when I wanted to start auditioning and actually be on TV. It was cool being picked for “Star Search” (in 2003) because my dad didn’t know I could sing, so he was surprised and shocked. After that, I just kept practicing and getting better.

4. Natalie: Why do you think you have been blessed with the gift of a beautiful voice?

Bianca: God just has his ways of doing things. He picks who he thinks is going to treat [success] the best and who is going make something of it.

5. Natalie: What role does your faith play in your career?

Bianca: It plays a big part. Without faith, you’re just someone who wants to make it and do whatever you want to do. When you have faith, you know exactly what you want to do. It guides you.

6. Natalie: Is Simon Cowell (producer of “America’s Got Talent”) really the critical and uncompassionate person he portrays on “American Idol”?

Bianca: I think that’s all part of his character on the show. When I met him, he was really nice. He wasn’t mean at all.

7. Natalie: I watched the show the night you won and was struck by how humble you are. What will you do to keep that spirit of humility now that you are a celebrity?

Bianca: I’m still the same Bianca. You have to stay faithful to God and keep praying.

8. Natalie: You have your first CD out at 12 years old. What do you hope to do in the future?

Bianca: I’m starting to tour Germany, which is pretty cool. [Performing] is something I want to do for my entire life. I have been blessed with a gift. I want to get involved with acting, too. We’re seeing if I can get on a Disney tour with Hannah Montana.
